In Taiwan, beach cleaning activities started in 2000. Over the past 20 years, there are more than 37 organizations and groups holding more than 150 beach cleaning activities every year.
Taiwan is surrounded by sea, and ocean currents carry garbage to the beach, making it unsafe for marine life. The beaches will only be safe if the ocean is safe.
This time we chose Yehliu Coast for beach cleaning. The location is close to the fish port, and the wave-absorbing blocks on the shore will also intercept marine garbage at low tide.
After the garbage is sorted, it will be neatly stored at the designated location in the fishing port, and the cleaning team will be contacted for removal and disposal.
In addition to group beach cleaning activities, shops along the coast have also cooperated with the government to set up a beach cleaning cooperative project, so that people who go for a walk on the beach can also carry out beach cleaning activities at any time.
